Silas is General Counsel & Company Secretary at Cumberland Building Society, a mutual financial services firm that has its heartland and branch network in Cumbria, Lancashire, and South-West Scotland, but serves customers nationwide through its broker network.  It serves both retail and commercial customers, offering current and saving accounts, overdrafts, mortgages, and vehicle finance.

 As a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, and with an early private practice career in real estate, Silas brings a distinct perspective to legal practice – viewing organisational environments through the lenses of place, personal identity, belonging, and social mobility.  He also serves as a non-executive director of a regional social housing provider, where he chairs its audit and risk committee.
