William Colgin

SPEAKER

William Colgin

Partner

Holland & Hart

Bill Colgin, of Holland & Hart, handles complicated and novel tax disputes and controversies for corporations, partnerships, start-ups, estates, and individuals. He has represented clients from a wide variety of industries, including cannabis companies.

His cannabis tax controversies have been before IRS Appeals and in the U.S. Tax Court in connection with various hot topic tax issues such as IRC § 280E adjustments, substantiation issues, and IRC § 6662 penalties. Bill has a long track record of favorable resolutions with the IRS prior to filing a court case, so much of his work is focused on providing tax advice to clients to mitigate risks before a controversy arises, defending IRS audits, and negotiating settlements during IRS Appeals and the Post-Appeals Mediation process among other things.

When litigation is required, Bill relies on his 29 years of litigation experience beginning with his experience as a trial attorney in the Tax Division of the US Department of Justice.
