AUTHOR Pamela Cone

Crucial insights from Legal ESG Latin America, into how the rapidly evolving ESG finance sector is presenting both challenges and strategic opportunities that lawyers must address to guide their clients effectively.

The days panelists highlighted Latin America's resilience in thematic bond markets, particularly green and social bonds, which continue to attract regional investment despite global economic volatility. Lawyers were encouraged to deepen their understanding of these instruments to assist clients in accessing sustainable capital markets effectively.

A recurring theme was the critical barriers faced by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), often underserved by traditional financial structures due to governance shortfalls, transparency challenges, and limited financial literacy. Legal professionals have significant opportunities to bridge these gaps, advising SMEs on improving governance practices, enhancing compliance standards, and developing flexible financing strategies tailored specifically to their needs.

The role of international regulations, especially those from the EU, was extensively discussed as both a challenge and an opportunity. Compliance with global ESG standards has become essential, and law firms play a central role in guiding regional clients through these increasingly complex regulatory frameworks. Expertise in international compliance and proactive strategic advisory were highlighted as key competencies for legal professionals aiming to differentiate themselves in the market.

Participants also addressed the practical implications of ESG integration, stressing that law firms must be proactive not only in external advisory roles but also in internal practices, ensuring that ESG standards are fully integrated within their own governance and operational frameworks. This internal-external alignment enhances credibility and allows firms to demonstrate best practices.

Legal ESG Latin America underlined that ESG finance is not merely a compliance issue but a strategic imperative for Latin American entities. Embracing and advocating robust ESG financial practices positions law firms to provide comprehensive, forward-thinking guidance essential for sustainable client growth and market leadership.

From Experimentation to Infrastructure: AI x KM Returns to New York on April 29 The legal profession has crossed an inflection point. Generative AI adoption among legal professionals has more than doubled in the past year. According to the 8am 2026 Legal Industry Report, 69% of legal professionals report personally using AI. The Wolters Kluwer Future Ready Lawyer 2026 report paints an even sharper picture: more than 90% of lawyers surveyed now use at least one AI tool in their daily work. The experimentation phase is over. The question is no longer whether to adopt AI, but whether firms have the knowledge foundations to make it reliable, scalable, and defensible in practice. That question sits at the center of AI x KM , a one-day, in-person program taking place at the SUNY Global Center in New York City on April 29, 2026. The event brings together Chief Knowledge Officers, innovation leaders, technology executives, and partners to address what may be the most consequential infrastructure challenge facing law firms today: building the knowledge backbone that AI depends on.
